FOLKLORE RESEARCH WITH MO YAN'S NOVEL SERVING FOREIGN LITERATURE TEACHING FOR STUDENTS THE FACULTY OF LITERATURE AT THE TAY NGUYEN UNIVERSITY
Keywords:
Mo Yan, culture, customs, fertility beliefs, folk art.
Abstract
Literary works are always based on the foundation of national culture. In great artists, it is not
a phenomenon of “eating raw” but rather the absorption into the images and details of the tapestry of
words. Mo Yan, a writer recognized by the world with the prestigious Nobel Prize for Literature in 2012,
has a lot of affinity with the Shandong - Gaomi region, where he was born and raised. Nature, people
and the land rich in cultural values, especially the rich folk cultural traditions here have contributed to
forming Mo Yan’s unique artistic style. He has exploited the popular culture through customs, fertility
beliefs, and folk art, thereby pointing out both the strengths and weaknesses of the Chinese people.
