Abstract

This research explores the impact of English Zones (EZs) on enhancing the oral fluency of
Vietnamese university learners of English. Utilizing a quasi-experimental design, the study involved 60
first-year English majors at Dong Nai Technology University. For ten weeks, the experimental group
engaged in interactive English-only sessions held in designated campus areas, while the control group
continued with conventional classroom-based speaking practice. Data collected through pre/post-tests,
learner surveys, and observational logs indicated substantial improvements in fluency, self-confidence,
and learner motivation within the experimental group. Results suggest that implementing EZs is a
practical and low-cost complement to formal instruction that can foster spontaneous language use in
authentic contexts.
