THE IMPACT OF GOOGLE SPEECH ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF ENGLISH SPEAKING SKILLS AMONG NON-ENGLISH MAJOR STUDENTS

Abstract

 This study aims to evaluate the impact of Google Speech, a speech recognition tool, on the
development of English speaking skills among non-English major students. By applying Google Speech
over a 6-week speaking practice period, the study compares the performance of an experimental group
(using Google Speech) and a control group (using traditional methods). Data were collected through
pre- and post-intervention speaking tests, a student confidence survey, and follow-up interviews. Results
indicated that Google Speech positively affected pronunciation clarity, learners’ ability to self-correct,
and speaking confidence. The paper discusses implementation challenges and provides suggestions for
incorporating speech technology into English language instruction.
