Abstract

This paper presents the design and implementation of a real-time web-based monitoring system
for a 110-kV substation model intended for electrical engineering education. The system integrates
field devices such as BCUs, RTUs, and IEDs through a Gateway PC, which collects and standardizes
operational data using the OPC Kepware platform and common industrial protocols including IEC
61850, IEC 60870-5-104, and Modbus TCP. A Webserver developed on the NodeJS framework provides
real-time visualization of device status, measurements, and events through an interactive dashboard
accessible via web browsers. Experimental results show that the system ensures stable data acquisition,
reliable communication, and intuitive human–machine interaction, enabling learners to approach
modern digital substation technologies. The proposed model enhances hands-on training, supports digital
transformation in power system education, and demonstrates potential for application as an auxiliary
monitoring solution in unmanned substations
