Abstract

The paper presents the experimental results on the influence of cutting speed (V) and depth of
cut (t) on surface roughness (Ra) during helical gear milling on a universal milling machine FVH260S.
The experiments were conducted on C45 steel workpieces using a modular disk-type milling cutter, with
three levels of cutting speed (60, 90 m/min) and three levels of depth of cut (0.5; 1 mm). The results show
that both cutting speed and depth of cut have a significant effect on surface roughness. As the cutting
speed increases, the surface roughness decreases to an optimal value, whereas increasing the depth of
cut leads to higher roughness due to greater plastic deformation and vibration. The study proposes an
appropriate cutting parameter range to ensure both high surface quality and machining productivity
