Abstract
In the context of international integration, the competence in a second foreign language is
increasingly emphasized. English-major students at Can Tho University are required to complete General
French courses with a Level 3 learning outcome according to the Vietnamese 6-Level Foreign Language
Framework. However, students’ awareness of the learning outcomes remains limited, affecting their
motivation and learning effectiveness. This study surveyed 100 English-major students to explore their
perspectives on achieving the French learning outcomes in General French courses. The results show that
70% of students are not clear about the expected learning outcomes, particularly regarding the concept
of learning outcomes and identifying the corresponding proficiency level for each course. This indicates
a need for clearer guidance on learning outcomes and the required competencies to help students study
more effectively and enhance their ability to achieve the prescribed standards
