Abstract

School counselling has become increasingly indispensable within general education systems,
particularly in developing countries such as Vietnam. This paper investigates the factors influencing
students—encompassing both their living environment and individual competencies—and analyzes the
roles, responsibilities, and essential skills of school counsellors across three educational levels: primary,
lower secondary, and upper secondary. Drawing upon both national and international research, the
paper proposes strategies to enhance the effectiveness of school counselling, with a particular emphasis
on preventive and remedial interventions
