Improving self-study skills in language learning

Abstract

Learner autonomy is an important skill to help learners acquire the knowledge more easily, learn more effectively and pursue life-long learning. It plays a very important role in language learning in particular and in improving the quality of training at universities in general. Learner autonomy is considered as one of the prerequisite competencies of global citizens and digital citizens. This article presents the concepts of autonomous learning and its importance in language acquisition, and highlights the undeniable role of the teacher in the learning process. The paper also offers some recommendations for teachers in promoting autonomy to language learners.
