Evaluating students’ mathematical modeling competence in teaching the topic of System of equations in grade 10

Abstract
In the trend of realistic mathematics education, mathematical modelling competency becomes one of the important competencies that is necessary to form and develop for students. However, teachers face many challenges in assessing this competency for students. The aim of this paper is to study the theoretical framework of mathematical modelling competence, to propose a mathematical modelling process and a rubric scale on the topic “Systems of equations” to evaluate the mathematical modelling competence of 10th grade students.
