Abstract

English communication skills are necessary skills for students in general, and English majors in particular. Besides students who pronounce correctly and naturally, there is still a large portion of students who have difficulty pronouncing, leading to errors, especially errors related to final consonants. This study aims to determine the final consonant errors of first-year English Language students at Phenikaa University and the rate of those errors through analyzing 90 recordings of the speeches of 28 students with four common topics. Based on data analysis, practical solutions that instructors can implement to help students overcome final consonant problems are proposed, including in-class activities and platform-based activities. These solutions can be widely applied at other universities with similar student populations.
