Abstract

Peer review is a valuable instructional technique for teaching writing in university-level English composition courses. When implemented effectively, peer review can provide students with meaningful feedback from their classmates, foster a collaborative learning environment, and develop critical thinking and communication skills. This article discusses the benefits and drawbacks of peer review, outlines step-by-step procedures for conducting peer review activities, and provides sample peer review guides for cause-solution essays that focus on both local feedback (grammar, vocabulary) and global feedback (content, organization, coherence). By following these guidelines, instructors can maximize the effectiveness of peer review and support their students’ growth as writers.
