Characteristics of the text structure of the textbook “Unlock reading and writing skills 3”

Abstract

This study is conducted so as to synthesize and analyze the text structure characteristics of 16 reading comprehension texts in Unlock Reading and Writing Skills 3 coursebook. The study also aims to find out the functions of common sentences in reading passages. The result shows that the common text structure is problems and/or solutions, and the common sentences are descriptive sentences. From the findings, some suggestions on expanding and exploiting reading activities for non-English major students at Vietnam National University, Hanoi have been made.
