Abstract
This study analyzes cultural content in the Headway Elementary textbook used at HUCE,
focusing on cultural sources and themes. The findings indicate a dominance of target culture over source
and international cultures. ‘Little c’ culture appears three times as often as ‘big C’ culture. Students prefer
learning about their own culture but lack interest in the themes of “values” and “gestures”. The study
suggests balancing cultural content in teaching materials and strengthening teachers’ roles in fostering
students’ intercultural communicative competence.
