Abstract

Due to the differences in pronunciation between English and Vietnamese, it is occasionally difficult for Vietnamese students to correctly pronounce English words. Therefore, a variety of pronunciation learning approaches have been presented to students, especially non-majored ones. Among these, the shadowing technique is likely to be commonly utilized to improve speaking skills. This study intends to explore the effectiveness of using the shadowing technique to improve the pronunciation ability of students at Hanoi University of Natural Resources and Environment (HUNRE). 20 non-English majors students at HUNRE did the research over the course of 4 weeks. The researcher, together with 2 native speakers, analysed the data in an effort to demonstrate the improvement in pronunciation after 4 weeks of using the Shadowing approach. The method may facilitate a novel approach to learning English pronunciation.
