Strategic challenges for international financial centers
Abstract
This paper examines the multifaceted challenges confronting International Financial Centers (IFCs) amid an increasingly complex global financial landscape. Key issues include regulatory compliance pressures related to anti-money laundering, tax transparency, and data privacy; disruptions from financial technologies such as blockchain and artificial intelligence; competition from emerging IFCs in Asia and the Middle East; and geopolitical risks, economic volatility, talent demands, and sustainability requirements. The analysis underscores the need for investment in technology, regulatory harmonization, and enhanced international cooperation to maintain competitiveness. Green finance emerges as a critical opportunity for IFCs to reposition themselves in addressing climate change. The paper concludes that a holistic approach is essential for IFCs to adapt and thrive in a rapidly changing world.
