Vietnamese families and their educational function in the era of national rise
Abstract
The family, as a fundamental social institution, holds a pivotal position in shaping and developing human personality. In the context of Vietnam entering a new era of advancement, alongside profound transformations across all aspects of social life, the educational function of the family is also being significantly influenced by both opportunities and challenges. This article analyzes the current changes in the educational function of Vietnamese families and proposes several approaches to effectively promote this role in the country’s new stage of development. The research findings indicate that the family’s educational function is currently facing three major challenges: the declining role of the family due to the influence of mass media and social networks; the socioeconomic disparities among family groups; and the lack of educational skills in many households. However, the article also highlights several major opportunities, such as the growing societal awareness of the family's role, supportive policies from the State, and the potential for applying technology in family education. The novelty of the article lies in its approach to the family’s educational function from the perspective of integration and development, aligned with the requirement of building a well-rounded Vietnamese citizen in the new era.
