Abstract

The Red Dao, one of the ethnic minorities in Vietnam, possesses a unique and rich culture. The factor that makes a clear difference in their culture is the use of red as the main color. Red appears not only in costumes and rituals but also has a profound meaning of protection and connection with ancestors. However, the process of urbanization and globalization has changed the way the Red Dao use red in their lives. Previous studies often describe red as a decorative element in costumes and festivals but have not delved into its meaning. This study sheds light on the meaning of red from the perspective of culture, rituals
and changes under the impact of modernization in the culture of the Red Dao. From there, solutions will be proposed to preserve and promote the cultural value of red in the context of contemporary society.
