Abstract

Accompanying the country’s transformation, Vietnamese literature post-1986 has experienced significant innovations in both content and artistic form. Symbols have emerged as a vital means to enrich the multi-layered and profound essence of literary works. Ho Anh Thai stands out as a prominent figure in contemporary Vietnamese literature. His works also contain a system of symbols with multiple layers of meaning, most notably the Buddhist symbol system. Through an analysis of Ho Anh Thai’s works, this article aims to identify the deeply rooted Buddhist symbols present in the author’s creations and decipher them through an interdisciplinary knowledge system. This will help uncover the significance that the author
conveys through each symbol, as well as the differences in the way Ho Anh Thai constructs symbols compared to other contemporary writers.
