Abstract

Cultural values are the tangible and intangible expressions of a society, often shaped by its environment. The development of rice-growing communities has historically been closely tied to rivers, which have played a crucial role in shaping their cultural values. The Ma River, formed by the confluence of numerous tributaries, has enriched the surrounding plains with alluvial deposits, fostering fertile rice fields and gardens. This fertile environment has, in turn, fostered the development and spread of distinct cultural values. The Ma River’s flow through Thanh Hoa was instrumental in the development of the influential Đông Sơn culture, whose impact resonates across time and region. The Đông Sơn culture has left an indelible mark on Thanh Hoa’s identity within the broader Vietnamese cultural landscape. Reconnecting with this rich heritage through contemporary artistic expressions, such as sculpture and painting, can offer valuable insights and inspiration.
