Abstract
The Jataka is a famous collection of ancient Indian tales and, at the same time, a Buddhist classic that conveys the teachings of the Buddha. Thanks to the smooth combination of religious elements and storytelling, the work holds great value in shaping noble ways of life, allowing it to spread powerfully to various lands, including Cambodia and Laos. This article will provide an overview of the Jataka and analyze the manifestations of its folklorization process in Cambodia and Laos at the level of plot and character image, thereby offering observations on the literary exchange between India and Southeast Asia.
