Abstract

The Mạ people have long inhabited the mountainous regions of southern Central Highlands and northern Southeast Vietnam, including the area of Cát Tiên National Park. With a polytheistic belief system, the Mạ worship various deities and practice rituals related to forests, mountains, and water sources. Their rituals are imbued with spiritual elements, seeking peace, good harvests, and reflecting cultural practices in their interaction with the natural environment. Alongside customary laws, the Mạ transmit cultural values through rituals aimed at protecting the environment and resources within their community. Despite the influence of various social factors leading to the decline of certain rituals, they have been revived through efforts to preserve the cultural heritage of the Mạ people. The beautiful cultural practices of interacting with the natural environment through traditional rituals of the Mạ contribute to raising awareness of the importance of preserving the diverse natural resources of Cát Tiên National Park.
