Abstract

The article assesses several opportunities for the management and conservation of the Hoi An Ancient Town World Heritage site amidst the current new administrative restructuring. Concurrently, the author points out the challenges and risks arising from this new context. The paper recommends adopting UNESCO policies (Historic Urban Landscape, 2015 Sustainable Development Policy, and the Mondiacult Declaration) to establish a flexible, autonomous direct management model, expand the scope of conservation beyond the core zone, and ensure equitable benefits for the community.
