Tín ngưỡng thờ mẫu Liễu Hạnh ở làng Tây Mỗ, xã Lĩnh Toại, tỉnh Thanh Hóa

Abstract

As a figure of special standing in the Mother Goddess worship in Vietnam, the earthly deeds and origins of Mother Goddess Lieu Hanh are very complex, making it difficult to find a single original account. In Thanh Hoa, two perspectives currently exist regarding Princess Lieu Hanh’s third reincarnation, at Pho Cat and Tay Mo. This article explores information about Princess Lieu Hanh at the Tay Mo locality, Ha Trung district (formerly) - a place quite obscure in both folk memory and academic research. Using ethnographic research methods, including interviews and participant observation, the author provides a database on Mother Lieu Hanh’s earthly deeds in Tay Mo and the unique characteristics of the Mother Lieu Hanh worship there.
