Abstract

In commemoration of the 110th anniversary of the death of writer Nam Cao (October 29, 1915 - October 29, 2025), and with the aim of promoting the value of cultural heritage in his hometown alongside tourism development, this article approaches writer Nam Cao from the perspectives of heritage studies and cultural tourism. This is to establish his literary value not only within the scope of literary research but also as a cultural heritage capable of contributing to sustainable local development. Based on theories of cultural memory, heritage, and tourism, the article analyzes the journey of Nam Cao’s image, from a personal writer to a cultural icon, and from the pages of his books to media, artistic spaces, and tourism products. The case of Dai Hoang village is studied as a “living literary memory space,” where literature serves as a bridge between the community, visitors, and history. The article proposes practical solutions such as designing storytelling tours, developing creative products, providing heritage education, and branding the local area in connection with Nam Cao. The goal is to raise awareness of literature’s role in shaping identity and promoting cultural and tourism development in the context of global integration.
