Nghệ thuật xây dựng nhân vật của soạn giả - nghệ sĩ nhân dân Viễn Châu
Abstract
This article focuses on identifying the characteristics and techniques used to construct characters in the scripts of Meritorious Artist Vien Chau - a central author of Southern Vietnamese cai luong (reformed opera) theatre. Based on the theoretical framework of dramatic character, the article analyzes the system of roles, artistic symbolism, the structure of singing-dialogue and the conflict mechanism in three representative scripts: Maternal love, The love story of Han Mac Tu and One day as king. Through this analysis, the author clarifies the shift from a “moral prototype” to a “psychological prototype,” the blend of dramatic quality and the musicality of vong co (Southern folk singing style), and the role of symbols (the bridge, the imperial robe, the yellowed manuscript) in distilling profound human depth, bringing characters to “life” on stage.
