Effects of heavy truck on the speed of mixed traffic flow

Abstract

The study focuses on analyzing the impact of heavy trucks, especially container trucks on the speed of traffic flow in motorcycle dominated traffic flow in Vietnam. By analyzing the data collected on road segments, the study analyzes the relationship between travel time and container truck composition as well as the effect of container trucks on traffic flow speed. The research results show that travel time at peak time increases by 88% compared to that at off-peak time under the same container truck proportion in the traffic flow. The research shows the relationship between flow speed and traffic flow under consideration of the presence and absence of container trucks. The research helps understand the effect of container truck on traffic performance in motorcycle dominated traffic flow.
