Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate effect of a cooling pipe system installation on temperature field of mass concrete within 7 days using a Mock-up method at Soc Trang wind-power project. In this study, two types of mass concretes with and without installation of cooling pipe system having dimensions of 2×2×2 m were constructed. Temperature sensors were installed at 7 positions in the control mass concrete without the cooling pipe system (M0) and 6 positions in the concrete with the cooling pipe system installed (M1) to record temperature development in the concretes. The concrete mixture proportion used for the two mass concretes in this study was designed with a compressive strength of the cubic samples (150×150×150 mm) at 7 days of at least 50 MPa and a slump of 160 mm. Temperatures in the two mass concretes M0 and M1 were recorded at a frequency of 1 hour/time with the start time recorded from the time of casting concretes. Results showed that the the cooling pipe system installation was effective in reducing the highest temperature in the shortest time and contributed to high cooling rate in the mass concrete. At the corner location, the temperature in the mass concretes was lower than that at other locations, regardless of the cooling pipe system installation, and a reason could be due to the small distance to the outside edge of the mass concretes, leading to heat loss during the installation of the insulation layer.
