Automation applycation in shuttle kiln
Abstract
A shuttle kiln is a batch-type firing kiln that is suitable for fast-firing products such as fine art ceramic, tableware, and sanitary, or technical ceramic products with high firing temperature requirements. Automation technology in furniture manufacturing is a solution to minimize the dependency on a manual workforce and improve productivity and throughput rate. Based on inheriting the available research and getting “know-how” of the technology, the authors propose designing and manufacturing a shuttle using LPG gas with a firing temperature of up to 1500°C, eight firing segments installed, and automatic control of the firing process. This paper presents the results of designing and fabricating the automatically controlled furnace. The printing test results have demonstrated the functionalities of the designed kiln.
