Research on manufacturing sidewalk tiles from waste plastic
Abstract
Research on manufacturing sidewalk tiles from waste plastic with four types of plastic tiles were manufactured from two types of waste plastic: polypropylene (PP) and High-density polyethylene (HDPE), and they were fabricated and tested. The results indicated that the plastic tiles produced have a flat surface with no significant defects. The volume mass of tiles using PP plastic is higher by 4,0-10,6 % compared to tiles using HDPE plastic. The flexural strength of the tiles ranges from approximately 2,16-2,80 MPa. In cases where plastic tiles use fiberglass, the flexural strength is higher by 5,2-11,5% compared to cases without fiberglass in the same type of plastic production. The elongation at break coefficient develops in the opposite direction to the flexural strength of the tiles. SEM analysis of the plastic tiles showed a smooth surface with no visible cracks or voids.
