Assess environmental impact at construction sites and propose an IoT-based monitoring solution
Abstract
Construction sites often generate various environmental issues such as dust, noise, vibration, and toxic gases, which negatively impact both workers’ health and nearby residents. This study evaluates the perceived impact of these environmental factors through a quantitative survey conducted on two target groups: construction workers and adjacent residents. Independent T-test analysis reveals significant differences between the two groups, particularly in their perception of noise and toxic gases. Based on the survey findings and a review of technological advancements, the study proposes an environmental monitoring system leveraging the Internet of Things (IoT), enabling real-time data tracking and integration with Building Information Modeling (BIM), with the long-term goal of developing a Digital Twin for construction sites.
