Abstract

The rapid development of major urban areas in Vietnam has significantly increased the demand for technical infrastructure, particularly urban drainage systems. This paper focuses on analyzing the role of new technologies and advanced technical solutions in the sustainable management and construction of urban drainage systems. Based on surveys and comparative analysis of practical conditions in major cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang, the study proposes the application of technologies including GIS, BIM, SCADA, and IoT to optimize the design, operation, and maintenance of drainage systems. In parallel, the use of modern materials (permeable paving blocks, porous concrete, biological filtration media) and green solutions (urban retention ponds, bio-swales, rain gardens, green roofs) is discussed as an effective approach in Vietnam’s climatic context. Through the analysis of international experiences (from Singapore, Japan, and the EU), the paper offers recommendations on human resource training, improving financial mechanisms, and developing a digital transformation strategy to address existing challenges related to infrastructure, data, and resources.
