Abstract

This paper presents the experimental results on the mechanical properties and durability of concrete using sea sand and fly ash. The study performed an evaluation on concrete using as-recieved sea sand, washed (desalted) seasand with a fineness modulus of 2.5 as fine aggregate and partially replaced cement with fly ash as a mineral additive. The properties of concrete are evaluated through TCVN standards and some current international standards, including assessment of concrete mix properties, mechanical properties and durability of concrete such as compressive strength, elastic modulus, impermeability, sulphate resistance, and shrinkage of concrete. Research results show that concrete using washed sea sand has the same or better quality than that of conventional river sand concrete. The concrete mixes meet the technical requirements for practical application.
