Effetiveness of building information modelling (BIM) for small and medium construction buildings in Vietnam

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to study the effectiveness of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in the design of small and medium-sized construction projects in Vietnam. The familiar BIM tools, Autodesk Revit and Naviswork, will be used to evaluate the effectiveness of BIM in 4 design purposes including 3D architectural design, 3D coordinated design, creating and simulating the construction progress and cost calculation for small-scale (types A and B) and medium-sized (types C and D) buildings by various designers. The results show that the effectiveness of BIM depends on not only the designers’ experience, but also on the type of building as well as the purpose of applying BIM in design.
