Park planning integrates with sustainable surface drainage systems for urban
Abstract
Nowadays, the sustainable surface drainage systems have been widely applied in various countries worldwide, meanwhile in Vietnam, this topic is still under research. The application of the sustainable surface drainage systems are only feasible in areas with low construction density, especially spaces that hardly experience human activities under heavy rain, making parks an ideal solution for such conditions. Currently, in Vietnam, park planning primarily contributes to the improvement of the urban landscape and the majority of them lack consideration for the role of urban flooding reduction. Therefore, this article proposes solutions when park planning integrates with the sustainable surface drainage systems to handle floods as well as develop urban landscape and habitat. Furthermore, it presents a detailed example, and uses simulation software SWMM (Storm Water Management Model) to evaluate concentrated stormwater runoff reduction ability after applying to the proposed planning.
