Standardise bim objects for promoting BIM adoption in design, construction and operation of construction works

Abstract

The adoption of BIM in the construction industry initially requires obtaining a BIM model, which is developed from BIM objects that are either readily available or created by the users. Standardizing these BIM objects is necessary to ensure interoperability, reduce errors, costs and time. The article presents the concept and classification of BIM objects, then reviews a number of widely introduced BIM object standards as lessons learned to propose the development of BIM object standards suitable for Vietnamese conditions.
