Abstract

In the industrial sector, burning of fossil fuels results in the emission of greenhouse gases, which is considered as one of the major causes of climate change and global warming. This study used IO tables of Vietnam to determine trends in energy consumption and CO2 emission from the building material industries (cement, glass, products from baked clay) from 1996 to 2018. The results show that the energy consumption increased by an average of 41% per year; total CO2 emission increased by an average of 53% per year, sharply increase in 2007-2018. The cement industry contributes 70% of both total energy consumption and CO2 emission. Several solutions to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions for the cement industry are proposed in this study.
