Study on using fine sand in Cuu Long river delta to make concrete bricks for construction of urban infrastructure
Abstract
In this paper, fine sand (FS) in the Mekong River Delta is used to replace crushed stone in Dong Nai Province for making interlocking concrete bricks in urban construction which can be made of high-strength concrete of more than 50 MPa. Mix ratio designed in 4 cases: concrete uses 0% FS (M0), concrete uses 50% FS (MFS50), concrete uses 75% FS (MFS75), concrete uses 100% FS (MFS100). With the FS content being replaced at 0, 50; 75 to 100% of the aggregate tested: the compressive strength of 28-day concrete is from 70 MPa to 57 MPa; the Splitting Tensile Strength of 28-day concrete is from 6,2 MPa to 4,2 MPa; the abrasion of the concrete is 0,42; 0,26; 0,28 and 0,35, respectively. We proposed a reasonable mix ratio of concrete made of 50% of FS in The Mekong River Delta and 50% of crushed stone in Dong Nai Province to satisfy simultaneously the strength, abrasion and price.
