Factors affecting accuracy of quantity take-off
Abstract
Quantity take-off relates closely to success of cost management in particular and construction project management in general. Though it plays a crucial role and receives concerns from project managers, many problems that appear during process affects accuracy of the quantity measurement. The study aimed to determine factors that affect the accuracy of quantity take-off in construction projects in Ho Chi Minh City. The research was conducted based on the point of views of investors, project management consultants, design consultants and contractors who had experience in different types of projects. Data were collected from 72 valid surveys and the factors were ranked based on the Relative Importance Index (RII) method. The analysis confirms four crucial factors that influence on the accuracy of quantity take-off, including: 1) Experience on similar projects, 2) Experience of the estimator/ quantity surveyor, 3) Project complexity, and 4) Scale and scope of work. The results provide the project stakeholders with knowledge of the factors influencing the quantity measurement in Vietnamese construction projects.
