Properties of binder pproduced with fly ash and clay tiles additives subjected to high temperature
Abstract
This paper aimed to investigate the effect of high temperature on properties of binder containing OrdinaryPortland cement (OPC) and fly ash (FA), waste clay tiles (BN). OPC has been partially replaced by 10% BN and 10, 20, 30, 40 wt.% FA. After molding and curing, the hardened cement pastes were dried at 100 oC for 24 hours, subjected tothermal treatment for 2 hours at 200, 400, 600, 800 and 1000oC, then cooled to room tempereture in the furnace switched off. Their bulk density, shrinkage and compresive strength were determined at each firing temperature. It was concluded that the sample FA40BN10 (70% OPC + 20% FA +10% BN) is the optimum mix which gives a higher compressive strength, about 2 times that of the OPC, theloss in bulk density of 9% and the shrinkage of 1.26% at 800oC.
