Research on the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in risk management for urban underground construction projects in Vietnam
Abstract
The Vietnamese government is currently particularly interested in developing underground construction as a response to the urban development overload in major cities [1]. In particular, in major municipalities such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, the rate of urbanization is very fast, land funds are exhausted, traffic is congested... so the construction of urban underground buildings is a necessity in order to reduce the pressure on the urban infrastructure system, ensure the demand for urban transport, urban drainage, etc. Urban subterranean construction is the construction of underground works that are difficult, complex, and high risk; hence, risk management is an essential and inseparable component of the process. In this situation, the use of scientific and technological instruments to manage risk in underground construction becomes critical. The purpose of this study is to use a Geographic Information System (GIS) to manage the risks of urban underground development in Vietnam, ensuring that it is safe and effective.
