Abstract

The process of identity formation is influenced by both family and individual efforts. The study was conducted on 372 students to investigate the impact of parenting behavior on students’ identity style and the mediating role of self-regulation ability. The scales used in the study were Parenting Behavior (PBI) Identity Style 5 (ISI-5), and Self regulation (SSRQ). The results showed that overprotective parenting behavior was negatively correlated with informative identity style and self-regulation ability. Caregiving/controlling parenting behavior was negatively correlated with an avoidant diffuse identity style. The regression model indicated the mediating role of self-regulation ability in the relationship between parenting behavior and identity style. These data form the basis for further research on this topic.
