Thiories and experiences in integrating disaster risk reduction in urban planning
Abstract
In the context of climate change and increasing natural disasters in countries around the world, urban areas - densely populated areas will be at great risk from natural disasters. Disaster risk reduction (DRR) is of top concern to the world and countries. DRR models have been strongly applied by countries in all areas of development, especially in the field of urban planning. The development of natural disaster risk assessment frameworks for urban areas; urban development policies; Integrating DRR in urban planning contents such as land use planning or urban infrastructure development are very important contents. In the context of urbanization and natural disaster risks, Vietnam urgently needs to learn from world theories and experiences in integrating DRR in urban planning. The content of this article will be (1) Introducing theories on natural disaster risk assessment for urban areas around the world; (2) Analyze experiences in integrating natural disaster risk reduction in urban areas; (3) Analyze the possibility of applying the DRR integrated model in urban planning in Vietnam.
