Abstract

Digital Transformation is becoming an inevitable trend across all sectors, especially in the construction industry-a field characterized by its complexity and significant contribution to the national economy. Within this industry, general construction enterprises play a pivotal role in executing large-scale, multi-sector projects such as infrastructure investment, material production, residential, urban, and real estate development. Given their extensive operations both domestically and internationally, the need for digital transformation to optimize management processes, enhance operational efficiency, and reduce costs is increasingly urgent. The Vietnamese Government's Decision No. 258/QĐ-TTg (2023) mandates the compulsory adoption of Building Information Modeling (BIM) for major projects from 2023, this policy not only imposes pressure but also acts as a driving force for general construction enterprises to invest heavily in technology infrastructure and develop a digitally-skilled workforce. However, this transformation process faces numerous challenges due to the complexity of multi-sector management, financial constraints, technological capacity, and the adaptability of human resources. This paper aims to clarify the characteristics of general construction enterprises, analyze the current state of digital transformation implementation, and identify the factors influencing this process. Based on the findings, it proposes solutions to improve management efficiency, enhance operational capacity, and promote sustainable development for these enterprises in the context of global digital transformation.
