Analysis of different perspectives on quality of supervision consultants in construction projects

Abstract

In the stage of development and international economic integration of the country, construction enterprises need to be dynamic and creative in seeking all measures to boost the quality of construction work, in which some tasks such as inspection, monitoring, supervision, urging and evaluation from the supervision consultant are truly necessary. Despite playing a vital role in the management of quality, quantity, schedule, labor safety and construction environmental sanitation, the quality assurance of supervision consultants still remains many issues affecting the investor's interests in various ways. The study aimed to determine the factors affecting the quality of supervision consultants for construction projects. The research was conducted based on the point of views of investors, project management consultants, design consultants, project supervision consultants and contractors who had experiences in different types of projects. The collected data consists of 149 valid survey responses, which were used to conduct T-test testing and principle component analysis (PCA). The results indicate differences among investors, supervision consultants, and construction contractors regarding the quality of supervision work. Additionally, the factors were grouped into three main components affecting the quality of supervision consultancy, including: 1) Moral characters of supervision consultants; 2) Professionalism and work attitudes of supervision consultants; 3) Qualification and experience of supervision consultants. The research outcomes confirmed the factors that have an effect on the quality of construction supervision consultants, which help the investors and supervision consulting companies to gain a general perspective and possibly apply relevant solutions to enhance the competitiveness and efficiency of supervision consultancy in construction projects.
