Abstract

The current housing construction and development process among ethnic minorities in the Northern mountainous region is progressing rapidly. While this development brings positive benefits by meeting the needs for food, accommodation, daily living, and facilitating household separation when children start their own families, several issues have emerged, such as: The architectural form and space of the house are gradually moving away from traditional culture, lifestyle, and customs; Traditional national architectural values are gradually being forgotten due to the interference of foreign architectural cultures; Due to the need to quickly replace temporary and dilapidated houses to provide people with more comfortable living spaces, authorities at all levels and specialized agencies are still overlooking the issue of exploiting and promoting the traditional cultural and architectural values of ethnic minorities.

This article focuses on proposing solutions to renovate and build houses that meet the conditions of food, accommodation, study, and household economic production while helping to ensure valuable architectural communication values for each ethnic group.

The article uses research methods such as: field surveys; synthesizing and analyzing documents and secondary data; analyzing and evaluating the practical basis to propose appropriate solutions. The study also proposes two groups of solutions, including: housing construction and development, and housing development associated with sustainable livelihood activities, contributing to preserving traditional indigenous cultural and architectural values.
