Study on dynamic properties of granulated rubber and sand mixtures by resonant column test
Abstract
ABSTRACT:
Now a day, converting waste into construction material is becoming a trend in the world because of its economy and ability to reduce environmental pollution. Due to rubber is high damping behavior, waste tires mixed with soil has the ability to reduce vibration while still having high bearing capacity. For that reason, the rubber/sand mixtures can be very suitable for embankment or foundation that is subjected to seismic load. This paper will study the variation of dynamic property (shear modulus and damping ratio) of sand and rubber mixed with different proportions by resonant column test in the laboratory. The results show that the higher the percentage of rubber is, the smaller the shear modulus and the higher the damping ratio are; otherwise the lower the percentage of rubber is, the higher the shear modulus and the smaller the damping ratio are.
