Caculation for the temporary strut system in the basement construction
Abstract
ABSTRACT:
In the construction of basements for high-rise buildings, the temporary strut system plays an important role, not only to ensure durability, bearing capacity but also to be safe on the site. This article analyzes the calculating temporary strut system for construction by open excavation method and top-down method. The 3D model of the strut system was established using ETABS 7.4 and PLAXIS 8.5 software. Each case is calculated according to the sequence of construction steps at the construction site. The model results show that, for each different construction method, the role of vertical struts and horizontal struts changes. Accordingly, with the open excavation method, the horizontal strut plays the main bearing role, and the vertical strut has the effect of positioning and stabilizing the structure. In contrast, according to the top-down construction method, the vertical strut is responsible for receiving the entire load transmitted by the upper floor during construction, so it needs to be calculated in detail.
