Urban development model - The foundation to achieve the goal of urban development towards green growth

ABSTRACT

Urban development towards green growth is gradually popular and plays a key role in achieving sustainable development goals faster and more efficiently. The urban development strategy towards green growth has been promoted and implemented by many countries, in which Vietnam has also set out strategies and plans to pursue this goal. To realize the national goal of urban development towards green growth, the article goes from the urban development model solution. Through a study of the history of urban development, the results as well as the challenges of urban development which are related to development models and current urban development trends to solve urbanization issues as well as environmental protection, the article concludes that it is necessary to focus on the urban development model. An urban development model is not only the foundation for orienting urban functional spaces, ensuring the movement of people, thereby effectively affecting production and consumption, but also shaping the community's habits and lifestyle, contributing to shifting lifestyles and economic activities in urban areas towards minimizing impacts on the natural environment, protecting natural resources, improving economic efficiency and quality of urban residents' lives. The article also discusses some green growth-oriented urban development indicators in Vietnamese institutions to orient authorities and urban development managers to better understand the nature to promote Vietnam's urban development model in the new context.
