Determination of the long- term bearing capacity by analytical method taking into account rheological properties of soils

Abstract

ABSTRACT:

Nowadays, the calculation of bearing capacity according to Vietnamese specifications for design of foundations for buildings and structures 9362:2012 is carried out based on the formation of plastic zones under footings with the assumption of the coefficient of earth pressure at rest K0 =1 and the absence of rheological properties of soil. In fact, the coefficient of earth pressure at rest K0 can vary with different values depending on the initial stress state of the soil medium (for normally consolidated and overconsolidated soils) and the critical state of loaded soil elements is in relevance to the rheological behaviour of soil caused by the changes of strength parameters over time. The article demonstrates an analytical solution for determining the long-term bearing capacity of strip footing taking into account various values of the coefficient of earth pressure at rest and the decrease in soil cohesion. As a result, a dependency curve of the bearing capacity of strip foundations on time is achieved, which is the basis of controlling the results gained by the finite element method.
