Converted old industrial buildings in Hanoi city - assessment and management strategy

Abstract

“Industrial heritage demands knowledge, great judgement and real understanding. From understanding grows valuing; from valuing grows caring and from caring grows enjoyment and inspiration”, Sir Neil Cossons, one of the most prominent experts in the field of conservation.

Industrial development in the cause of national economic development is the inevitable path of each country. To facilitate that inevitability, special priorities need to be given as a comprehensive solid foundation from policy guidelines to technical infrastructure investment planning in big cities. Hanoi city is no exception. To harmonize in the comprehensive and sustainable development of urban areas like Hanoi, The article mentions some issues related to studies on the conversion of industrial works to help policy makers as well as managers to have reasonable overall policies to balance the interests of each related  field, as a strategy for assessment and management. Specifically: summarize the industrial development process as well as the current status of relocation and functional transformation of some old industrial facilities in the inner Hanoi area; propose approaches and strategies for the assessment and management of industrial heritage in urban areas.
